our story

Alix Mirror Wellness Supports Society

Timeline

A dedicated group of individuals in the Alix community began collaborating with the Bashaw Regional Wellness Team, early in 2020. This led to the founding of the Alix Mirror Wellness Supports Society. Awareness of the need for greater resources and a desire to make a difference, gave the group its purpose. The opportunity for partnership and mentoring, furthered their excitement for the future of a facility and the positive changes it could bring to Alix and surrounding communities.

By spring 2020, a location was secured and renovation outlines started for the new space at Bay 1, in Railway House. Although the pandemic altered some planning and timelines, the project was still able to proceed as a result of community interest and support.

Initial services were first offered in June 2020, through staggered program launching. Over the summer, final efforts were made to prepare for a fall opening. Volunteers and generous donors made the construction of two private offices, painting, cleaning and set up possible. On September 8, 2020, the Alix and Area Community Resource Centre opened it's doors to the public.

Further public interest and community support, generated over the first couple months of operations, helped advance the final phase of renovations. More painting, the construction of three additional private offices, storage, a meeting room and a recreation area were completed by March 2021.

In June 2021, the leased space at Bay 1 expanded to include Bay 2. This addition provides many opportunities to offer a wider array of community programming. The space has since been renovated and named, the Community Connections Activity Centre. It hosts community events and programming for children & youth, families, seniors and adults, as well can be rented for private use.

The support and contributions made by so many, has been the heart of this project. The success of this initiative would not have been possible without it! Click here to learn more about our supporters.
